Chinese Opera DYCP

In 2025 I was fortunate to receive an ACE DYCP award to further build contacts in and further my knowledge of Chinese Opera and music. It turned into an amazing journey over the course of the year as I strengthened existing relationships, built new ones and learnt so much more about this amazing culture.

Nie Xiaoqian

Adapted from “Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio,” the performance retains the essence of Hunan opera singing and performance, while introducing immersive spatial narrative and audience interaction. Audiences will enter the constructed space of “Lanruo Temple,” freely wandering through the story’s setting, becoming witnesses or participants in this tale of love between a human and a ghost.

It’s not about bringing traditional opera into a small theater, but about letting the audience step into the world of traditional opera.

Classic of Mountain and Seas

The scene of the myth of Jingwei filling the sea – up close to a giant 4-meter-tall puppet.

The highlight of the annual Surprise Night: Intangible cultural heritage puppetry is presented alongside contemporary machinery, video, and music, creating an epic of Eastern mythology for thousands of theaters, suitable for touring and residency performances.
